Megan Oleary

About Megan:

I have been involved in the theatre/ television/ film biz for over 20 years. Working in production (APOC, AAD, PA, you name it), as a writer, producer, director, prop master, fight choreographer and predominantly as an actor.

I am now focusing on my acting/ writing career, but very much remain a team player and love creating and sharing stories with the world, especially seldom told ones with a focus on the human condition , spirit and perseverance. ( I also have a passion for run on sentences).

My acting career started with Shakespeare and more classical training and I gravitated toward more dramatic roles. Then about 10 years ago I really found a home in comedy, sketch comedy. My true love has always been dark comedies, that is where I shine the brightest. I love where I find myself now as an actor, having lived a rich life and full of compassion, grit and empathy. I look forward to crafting many more exciting, fierce, irreverent, vulnerable, badass, complex characters. And always with gratitude.

Writing

I started my writing journey as a Playwright at an early age and still have a deep love for the art and the theatre. Then in 2010, I joined the writing team for the hit sketch comedy show “American Candy”. We have now enjoyed over 10 years of sold-out shows, at The comedy Strip, Gotham, BAM, BRIC,The Actors’ Fund, The Green Space, WNYC and many more venues.

In 2020 I helped write and shoot a pilot for American Candy TV. I am proud to say that I have also been published in MAD Magazine and as a big fan of the magazine I am very proud to be one of the few ladies that joined the boys club.

Production Work

I am currently the Associate Artistic Director for Playhouse Creatures Theatre in NYC and have been since 2010 and am beyond proud of the work we do on the stage as well as through our community outreach. Before that, I was Co-Founder of My Fair Heathen Productions which enjoyed great success in Boston, NYC and Edinburgh.

I have worked as a theatre producer, props master and stage manager over the years. In television I have worked as a PA, Production Coordinator and Assistant Production Coordinator on many shows including 2 seasons at Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
